RIP Former Senator Edgardo Angara Dead at 83 Due to Heart Attack

Former senator Edgardo Angara has passed away, announced his son, Senator Sonny Angara. Edgardo Angara died due to an apparent heart attack. He was 83 years old.

“Sad to say my father frmr Sen Edgardo Javier Angara passed on from this life this morning at the age of 83, from an apparent heart attack,” Sonny Angara announced on Twitter. He did not give any other details.

“We are still arranging funeral arrangements for my father but will keep everyone posted too. We ask for prayers for the repose of his soul,” he added.

On his Instagram, the young senator posted a photo of his departed father.

Edgardo Angara served as Senator from 1987 to 1998, and was the Senate president from 1993 to 1995. He was also Minority Floor Leader from 1995 to 1996. In 1999, he was appointed Department of Agriculture secretary by former president Erap Estrada.

In the 1998 presidential elections, Angara wanted to run for president but abandoned the idea due to the popularity of his would-be opponent, Erap Estrada. He then accepted Estrada’s offer to run as his vice president. He lost the vice presidential race to Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
