RIP George Michael, 53: Singer Dies Suddenly at Home on Christmas Day

George Michael is dead. The 53-year old singer died suddenly at home on Christmas Day.

The family of George Michael released the following statement on the singer’s unexpected death. They are appealing for privacy at this difficult time. However, his family did not reveal George Michael’s cause of death.

‘It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period,’ the statement said.

‘The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage.’

George Michael’s cause of death remains a mystery at this time. However, police said there ware no suspicious circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.

The Thames Valley police, who were called to the singer’s house in Oxfordshire, released the following statement via a spokesman shortly thereafter.

‘Sadly, a 53-year-old man was confirmed deceased at the scene. At this stage the death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.’

George Micheal almost died from pneumonia in 2011. He also has a history of substance abuse.

Michael, whose real name Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, has sold more than 100 million albums throughout his career. He found fame as the other half of the tandem ‘Wham!’ with school friend Andrew Ridgely.

‘Wham!’ was a huge success and the duo enjoyed a string of hits and sold out concerts. However, they decided to part ways in 1986.

George Michael then launched an even bigger career as a solo artist, and released hugely successful concerts and solo albums from 1987 to 2014.
