RIP Joe Jackson: Michael Jackson’s Father Dies of Pancreatic Cancer at 89

Joe Jackson is dead. According to TMZ, Jackson died on Tuesday night at the age of 89 surrounded by family. The Jackson patriarch has been suffering from pancreatic cancer and was reported to be on his death bed last week.

Joe Jackson had been battling cancer for several months. Aside from cancer, the father of eleven also suffered from a number of health problems in recent years including a stroke, multiple heart attacks, and dementia. Last year, Jackson was also in a car accident in Las Vegas.

Recent reports stated that it was already stage 4 pancreatic cancer when his condition took a turn for the worse and he needed to be hospitalized a week ago.

But drama unfolded during Joe Jackson’s final days. Due to his strained relationship with some of his children, some family members were barred from seeing their father at the hospital. According to Daily Mail, Jackson’s handlers prevented some family members, including his wife Katherine, from seeing him.

“No one knew what was going on — we shouldn’t have to beg, plead, and argue to see our own father, especially at a time like this,” said Jermaine Jackson as quoted by The Daily Mail

“We have been hurting. We were not being told where he was and couldn’t get the full picture. Even from the doctor. My mother was worried sick.”

After an emergency family meeting, his family was eventually allowed to see him on Tuesday before he died.

Joe Jackson engineered the successful careers of his children starting with The Jackson 5 (Michael, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon). His other children also entered show business under his guidance. 

But their success came with a price – Joe’s alleged physical and mental abuse on his kids to drive them to succeed.
