Signal #4 Now Over Cagayan, Isabela as Typhoon Ompong Moves Closer & Faster

Earlier Typhoon Ompong signals are now happening. Signal #4 is raised over Cagayan and parts of Isabela,and Signal #5 is highly possible in the next several hours as Typhoon Ompong nears landfall.

According to the latest update from PAGASA, Signal #4 is now up over Cagayan and northern Isabela, which will experience winds of 171 kph to 220 kph in the next 12 hours. Typhoon Ompong is still out at sea but the cyclone has accelerated.

At 4:00 PM Friday, the eye of Typhoon #OmpongPH was located at 340 km East Northeast of Casiguran, Aurora. It still maintains its strength of 205 kph winds and gusts of 255 kph near the center. Ompong is now moving at northwest at 30 kph.

Predictions earlier this week said typhoon signals of #4 or #5 are possible when the cyclone hits land.

  Storm Surge Warning Issued for Coastal Areas as Typhoon Ompong Nears Landfall

The storm surge warning remains in place: “The Storm Surge prone areas of Cagayan and Isabela (early morning tomorrow) and the Ilocos Provinces may expect up to 6 meters (above mean sea level) of surge.”
