Did Star Cinema Withdraw ‘Vince and Kath and James’ from MMFF 2016?

Star Cinema has reportedly withdrawn ‘Vince and Kath and James’ from the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival.

‘Vince and Kath and James’ is the only mainstream film in the 2016 MMFF. If it is withdrawn for whatever reason, only seven independent films will be left. This will be a big blow to the Metro Manila Film Festival, which is already expected to suffer a big dip in revenues after it changed its policy this year to show only ‘quality’ films.

The news of the withdrawal comes from a report by Rachelle Siazon of PEP, which says that Star Cinema is unhappy that the 2016 MMFF has decided to give 30% discount to senior citizens, persons with disabilities and students. That is a big discount which will definitely be felt more by the bigger-budgeted ‘Vince and Kath and James’.

This discount is, of course, meant to lure more people to watch the MMFF 2016 this year.

However, Star Cinema has denied that it has withdrawn the movie. In a statement issued earlier today, the film outfit said that it is committed to providing the best entertainment to Pinoys this Christmas via ‘Vince and Kath and James’.

“Contrary to rumors, Star Cinema is not withdrawing its entry ‘Vince & Kath & James’ from the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival. Rest assured that we are committed to provide the best in entertainment to the Filipino family this Christmas season,” reads the message posted on its official social media accounts.
