UPDATE: Super Typhoon Maria Enters PAR as #GardoPH with 200 kph Winds

The weather in Luzon continues to deteriorate as Typhoon Maria (Bagyong Gardo) moves closer. ‘Maria’ is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as #GardoPH on Monday.

According to the latest forecast update from PAGASA at 4:00 AM, Typhoon Gardo was 1,325 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, with 200 kilometer per hour sustained winds which can gust up to 245 kph. 

#GardoPH was moving northwest at 23 kph.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast in northern and central Luzon as ‘Maria’ enhances the southwest monsoon. Southern Luzon will have cloudy skies with occasional moderate rainfall, especially the easter part of Batangas and Mindoro.

Forecast Positions of Typhoon Gardo

  • ‘Maria’ is expected to be 1,315 km east of Basco, Batanes early Monday morning but still outside PAR;
  • The typhoon is expected to enter PAR within the morning of Monday, July 9, and will officially be named Bagyong Gardo, or #GardoPH;
  • ‘Gardo’ is expected to be 780 km east northeast of Basco, Batanes, inside PAR, by Tuesday morning;
  • By Wednesday morning, the typhoon is expected to be 555 km north of Extreme Northern Luzon and outside PAR;

‘Maria’ is forecast to move in the general direction of eastern China.
