Angela Ponce is not the first transgender contestant to try her luck for Miss Universe. Earlier this year, Talleen Abu Hanna joined Miss Universe Isreal 2018. She was Miss Trans Israel 2016 and won second place in Miss Trans Star International in the same year. But, unfortunately, Hanna lost in Miss Universe Israel 2018, which was won by 18-year old Nikol Reznikov last month.

A couple of years ago, another transgender contestant tried her luck in Miss Universe Canada.
