The official death tool came from NCRPO chief Oscar Albayalde, who was interviewed live on CNN Philippines this morning. According to Albayalde, the bodies were found as authorities conducted cleanup operations Friday morning when the thick smoke that covered the interior of Resorts World dissipated. Scattered in parts of the casino floor were the victims, 22 guests and 13 employees, who were trapped when the lone gunman started torching casino tables just before he ransacked the depository of chips.

Authorities maintained that only a single attacker entered the complex as evidenced by CCTV videos from all entrances of Resorts World. There was no evidence of terrorism nor ISIS involvement. Security experts point out that the pattern of attack does not match any terrorist or ISIS modus.

The motive of terrorists is to inflict maximum damage to civilians. There was none of this at Resorts World. Gunfire was directed overhead as the attacker tried to create commotion so that he could rob the casino’s depository. None of the victims had gunshot wounds, according to SOCO said Albayalde. Those who were hurt were injured in the stampede.

The lone gunman was seen casually leaving his car at the parking building and walking to the entrance. He was armed with an M4 rifle and a pistol and wearing a fatigue uniform. A lone lady security guard failed to stop him at the entrance. CCTV video showed the lady guard running away as she realized what was about to happen, according to Albayalde.
