Brazil was co-favorite to win the World Cup this year along with France. And on paper, the South Americans seemed to have the edge against their European opponents. But Belgium had other plans.

Early in the 13th minute, Belgium went ahead courtesy of an unfortunate goal by Brazil star Fernandinho. Before half time, Kevin de Bruyne made it 2-0 and it looked like doom for the Brazilians.

But Renato Augusto pumped up the hopes of their fans with a goal midway into the second half. And it looked like the Brazilians should have been handed a penalty late into match when Vincent Kompany tangled with Gabriel Jesus in the box but the referee said no.

Belgium will now face Les Bleus in the semifinals.
