A heart-breaking loss for the Philippines. Gilas Pilipinas lost to Iran last night in their FIBA Asian Qualifying game. The Philippines, manned by a recently-assembled team following suspensions by FIBA, now prepares for its match against Qatar in four days.

Christian Standhardinger led Gilas Pilipinas with 30 points and 11 rebounds. However, no other player from the Philippines were in double digits. Despite this, Gilas kept in pace with powerhouse Iran up to the fourth quarter, trailing by single digit points. However, Iran stepped up its game in the closing minutes and lived up to its billing as an Asian basketball powerhouse.

The Philippines will now fly back to Manila to prepare for its game against Qatar on Monday.
