The Philippine women’s volleyball team lost another five-set heart-breaker in the Asian Volleyball Cup 2018. The Philippines was leading two sets to one when Iran took control of the match and never looked back, 27-29, 25-16, 17-25, 25-12, 15-13.

It was the second straight five-set loss of the Philippine team in the 2018 AVC being held in Thailand. On Saturday, the women’s volleyball team also lost in five sets to Australia.

The Filipinas were blowing hot and cold throughout the match, something the Iranians capitalized on especially in the final two sets.

Alyssa Valdez led the Philippine team with 24 points, followed by Mylene Paat. These two were also the go-to players of the Philippine women’s volleyball team during the 2018 Asian Games last month.

The loss eliminated the Filipina volleybelles after finishing last in Pool C, relegating them to the ‘Challenge Cup’. Their next opponent is Kazakhstan on Tuesday.
