The slam dunk competition was tough. With two-time world champion Dmytro Krivenko in the finals, as well as France’s Guy Dupuy, the chances of David Carlos was quite a long shot.

After two attempts, the Filipino dunker tallied a total of 46 points, which was not enough to propel him into the final round. But after Vadym Piddubchenko of Ukraine ran out of chances on his second attempt, the door to a podium finish was opened for Carlos.
