Was New DOT Ad for ‘Experience the Philippines’ Copied from South Africa?

The Department of Tourism (DOT) launched it ad campaign ‘Experience the Philippines’ this week with the unveiling of a new TV ad entitled ‘Sights’. But almost immediately, accusations of plagiarism were hurled against the DOT and the advertising agency responsible for the ad. Allegedly, ‘Sights’ was copied from South Africa’s tourism ad campaign from last year as both featured a blind tourist.

Both the DOT and McCann World Group Philippines denied the plagiarism accusations. Though they admitted a similarity in the concept, they said TV ad was not copied.
