Wyn Marquez vs Transgenders: Miss Universe for Natural-Born Women Only

Another beauty queen has voiced her ‘opposition’ to transgender contestants in Miss Universe. Teresita Marquez, aka Winwyn Marquez, thinks the Miss Universe pageant should be for natural-born women only.

Expect outrage from the LGBT community and rights activists against Wyn Marquez because of this point of view. The reigning Reina Hispanoamericana 2017, however, points out that she has nothing against transgenders.

“I’m really proud na sobrang happy, out na talaga, and everyone is respecting them, di ba? Pero Miss Universe per se, sana ibigay na lang sa natural-born women,” Marquez said in an interview

She points out that there are international pageants for transgenders so why not leave Miss Universe for natural-born women only.

“Kasi there is Miss International Queen, it’s a prestigious pageant also. And Miss International Queen ay isang beauty pageant na ekslusibo para sa mga transwomen.”

“Let’s just give it to natural-born women, and for transgenders to have their own prestigious pageant,” Winwyn added.

Earlier, another Filipina beauty queen voiced her opposition to the idea. Former Miss Universe first runner-up Miriam Quiambao shared the same sentiment as Wynwin although Miriam expressed her dissent back in 2011 when the issue first came up. There is no word if Miriam is still against transgender women competing in Miss Universe.
